Brown Nets Cats’ Second Straight Star of the Week

FRISCO, TX – A four-goal weekend, including his first career hat trick, propelled Bismarck Bobcats forward Willie Brown to the team’s consecutive straight Central Division Star of the Week award, the North American Hockey League announced Monday.

Brown, acquired at the 2014-15 trade deadline from the Topeka Roadrunners, continued his torrid run out of the Christmas break with three goals for the Cats against the Minot Minotauros Friday before getting the game’s first goal the next night as the two bitter rivals split the weekend home-and-home series.

“When we traded for Willie last season, we knew we were getting one of the most talented players in the league,” lauded Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie, whose team has now collected six Star of the Week nods—matching their total from the previous campaign. “Since Christmas, he has committed to more of a 200-foot game and has been rewarded with some great production.”

In five games since the 11-day holiday layover, the South St. Paul, Minn., native has compiled six goals and an assist to claim the team lead in scoring at 30 points with 16 goals and 14 assists.

The award win comes on the heels of goalie Hunter Shepard taking the honor the previous week. Brown also won this season’s first Star of the Week for the Central Division back on September 21.

With a four-point weekend of his own (1g, 3a), Bobcat center Aaron Herdt was an honorable mention for the hardware his linemate ultimately secured.

Brown, Herdt and the rest of the Bobcats now turn their attention to a two-game home-and-home set against the rival Aberdeen Wings, starting with a 7:15pm dustup Friday at the VFW Sports Center.

Tickets are now on sale for the Wings’ first visit to the capital: fans can buy and print tickets 24 hours a day at BismarckBobcats.com, by clicking “Shop Now” on the team Facebook page or by calling 222-3300.

Friday’s go-round in the Titan Machinery Dakota Cup will be broadcast live locally on SuperTalk 1270, KLXX-AM, the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, and worldwide online at NAHL.FASTHockey.com—the official web television partner of the North American Hockey League—with pregame coverage starting at 6:45pm.
