Jan 17, 2010

ANN ARBOR, MI – Bismarck Bobcats goaltender Ryan Faragher got Team Central off on the right foot at the 2010 Top Prospects Tournament, turning aside 37 of 40 shots as the Central Division outlasted Team West 4-3 Monday.

The West Division’s side took an early lead on a Jon Schreiner (Fairbanks Ice Dogs) score just 72 seconds into the contest, but Team Central rallied to take the lead with a two-goal second period thanks to Cory Thorson (Owatonna Express) and Brian Nehring (Albert Lea Thunder).

Team West tied the score 5:49 into the third period thanks to a score from Christian Hilbrich (Wenatchee Wild), triggering a see-saw final frame.

Derek Docken (Albert Lea) put the Central back on top with 5:23 left in the third, but Michael di Puma (Wenatchee) evened it back up just 50 seconds later.

Central Division winger Dan Cecka (Owatonna) boosted the Central to the win with just 2:14 left in regulation.

Bobcats Nick Jensen, Casey Kleisinger and John Avino combined for a plus-three plus/minus rating.

The victory makes Faragher 1-0-0 at the highly scouted annual all-star event.

In other action, Team North rallied to top the South Division 3-2.

Team Central continues their Top Prospects Tournament schedule Tuesday with a 7:30 PM contest against Team South.

2010 marks the third year of the NAHL’s Top Prospects Tournament. Nearly 30 players who participated in last year’s second-annual Top Prospects event eventually secured D-I scholarships.

Each year, the six-game showcase draws in over 100 collegiate and professional scouts, making it one of the most highly scouted hockey events in the country.

The rest of the Bobcats are busy preparing for their Friday contest at Owatonna on January 22nd—a 7:00 PM faceoff against the second-place Express at the Four Seasons Centre.

Friday’s game will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide at BismarckBobcats.com via B2 Networks. The pre-game show starts at 6:30 PM.
