Bobcat Forward Grannis Commits to Clarkson

POTSDAM, NY – The Bismarck Bobcats are pleased to announce that 2017-18 forward George Grannis has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Clarkson University.

“It’s a dream come true, to know that I’ll be playing college hockey,” stated Grannis, who was added to the Bobcats’ roster in March as a tender signee for 2018. “Crazy to think I’ve come this far but if I’m being honest it still hasn’t set in.”

In eight appearances with the Bobcats in March and April Grannis, who turned 18 on Monday, scored one goal and added four assists, following a 52-point (29g, 23a) season with Marshall School in Duluth, Minn., in Minnesota high school play.

“George had a great high school season, which led to him being able to jump in with us and be a productive player at the NAHL level,” lauded Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie, who has the former Hilltopper signed onto the roster for 2018-19. “His ability and his puck movement will definitely help him succeed at that next level, too.”

Being a Golden Knight is a family affair for Grannis, as well: his maternal grandfather and great grandfather both also attended Clarkson.

The Golden Knights have been members of the historic ECAC conference since 1962, making 21 trips to the NCAA Tournament, including reaching the 2018 tournament under coach Casey Jones after a 10-year absence from the “Big Dance.”

“Clarkson was a school that was always up-front and genuine with me—and in this process, it’s easy to tell who is genuine and who isn’t,” added Grannis, who will graduate this spring from Marshall School. “I knew I liked Clarkson a lot before my visit but once I met Coach Jones and his staff and saw the campus and the rink I just knew it was the right spot.”

Grannis’ commitment marks the tenth current or former Bobcat to commit to an NCAA program during the 2017-18 campaign, joining: Jared Resseguie (Denver), Tanner Vescio (Northern Michigan), Grant Johnson (Northern Michigan), Ryan Ullan (Northern Michigan), Adam Stacho (American International), Alex Trombley (Ohio State), Andrew Bellant (Michigan Tech), Tristan Ashbrook (RPI) and Tanner Breidenbach (Concordia).

The Bobcats’ busy offseason continues in May and June with Open Pre-Draft Camps in Michigan and Minnesota, respectively: players born between 1998 and 2002 who think they have what it takes to be a Bobcat can sign up to try out 24 hours a day at BismarckBobcats.com.
