Jensen Picks Up Weekly Hardware

Nov 29, 2009

FRISCO, TX – Hot on the heels of a four-point weekend, Bismarck Bobcat forward Nick Jensen was named the Sherwood NAHL Central Division Player of the Week Monday.

“It’s a great honor anytime you get player of the week,” said Jensen, “but right now it’s just as big of an honor to be a part of this team. Everyone here is playing so well, this feels more like a team award than one for me. It’s a great way to end a great month for our team.”

The Bobcats finished November with a 7-0-2 record.

The 6’3” 210 pound native of Copenhagen, Denmark, tallied two goals and picked up a pair of assists to help guide the first-place Bobcats to a 2-0-1 record over the Thanksgiving weekend and extend their lead in the standings to five points over second-place Owatonna.

Both of Jensen’s goals were of the game-winning variety, including his short-handed score—the first shorthanded marker for the Bobcats this season—Friday against the Alexandria Blizzard.

“Nick has really elevated his game over the last couple of weeks,” said Bobcats head coach Byron Pool. “He got off to a slow start, but lately his play has been tremendous. He’s a big man with tremendous skill, and he’s very tough to defend against when he’s playing at the top of his game.”

Jensen’s offensive resurgence has coincided with being put on a line with fellow veterans Jason Fabian and Sean McKenzie on October 14th against the Owatonna Express. Since that line was assembled, Jensen has four goals and five assists in eight games. The Jensen-Fabian-McKenzie has combined for 10 goals and 20 assists in that time span.

The Danish forward now has seven goals and 12 assists, putting him at fourth in scoring on the Bobcats.

It is the fourth time a Bobcat player has picked up a Player of the Week nod in the month of November with McKenzie (Nov. 16) and Sam Rendle (Nov. 2 and 23) also receiving the award.

Jensen and the rest of the Bobcats open their December schedule with a home game Saturday against the fourth-place Alexandria Blizzard at 7:15 PM at the VFW Sports Center.

The game will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide at BismarckBobcats.com via B2 Networks. The pre-game show starts at 6:45 PM.
