Nicky Four-Goals

Rookie Alexander is Central Star of the Week

FRISCO, TX – Thanks to a breakout weekend that saw him score four goals—including both game-winners—first-year Bismarck Bobcats forward was named Central Division Star of the Week Monday.

“Nick is a great young player that has made the adjustment to playing in the NAHL very well,” credited Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie of Alexander, who was playing Under-16 AAA hockey a year ago for the Dallas Jr. Stars. “His ability to work hard in some tough areas on the ice turned into goals this weekend, and he's a big reason we picked up four points in the division.”

In each of the weekend’s road games against the Aberdeen Wings and Brookings Blizzard, Alexander tallied a pair of goals to storm into a tie with Aaron Herdt for the Cats’ team lead in goals with five.

He was also strong defensively during the two-game swing: earning a plus-4 rating and making a critical shot block on the penalty kill late in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Brookings to help stave off the Blizzard’s furious late-game charge.

The Dallas, Tex., native becomes the second Bobcat to win Star of the Week honors on the young 2015-16 campaign after Willie Brown opened the season by claiming the award. In all of 2014-15, only two Bobcat skaters were named Star of the Week for the Central (Tanner Salsberry, J.M. Piotrowski); goalies Hunter Shepard and Alex Bitsakis combined for four other Star of the Week nods.

Oskars Batna, who centered the Cats’ third line with Alexander and Jared Pike on the weekend, earned an honorable mention for the award with two goals and two assists to go with a plus-3 rating.

Alexander and the Bobcats return to the VFW Sports Center at 7:15pm Friday for their first home games in three weeks when they open a two-game series against the newest members of the Central Division, the Minnesota Magicians.
