BISMARCK, ND – The Bismarck Bobcats’ 20th season of hockey in the capital region begins Saturday as the Cats host a familiar foe in the Aberdeen Wings at the VFW Sports Center for Coors Light Opening Night.

It will be a different look for both teams, as the Bobcats’ 25-man roster features 19 new faces while Aberdeen brought in long-time Topeka bench boss Scott Langer as their new head coach.

“You know when you face a team with Scotty Langer behind the bench that they’re going to be well-coached,” credited Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie. “The Wings have some good players returning so we know they’re going to be a tough challenge right out of the gate.”

Langer, who was NAHL Coach of the Year in 2011 and GM of the year the season prior, spent time as an assistant coach with the Bobcats under Chad Johnson from 1998 through 2002.

For the Bobcats, six skaters return from the 2015-16 Central Cup run: Jared Resseguie, Nick Alexander, Tobias Fladeby, Parker Mismash, Jordan Fralich and Pieter von Steinbergs; in search of experienced reinforcements, the Cats brought in five more players with league experience in Zach Kennedy (Austin), Will Ulrich (Minn. Magicians), Austin Junger (Fairbanks/Kenai River), Nick McKeeby (Minn. Magicians) and Joey Sardina (Kenai River).

“We’re very excited about the young talent that we’ve been able to bring in through tender signings, the NAHL Draft and open camps, but we wanted the right mix of veterans—talented veterans—to go with that,” added Sedevie.

Aberdeen returns eight veterans from last season, as Tyler Bossert, Carter Roo, Jake Leitner, Kevin Fitzgerald, Ethan Stewart, Colin Raver, Kyle Siemers and Andrew Noel all come back to a Wings team that missed the 2016 Robertson Cup Playoffs by just one point.
