Bobcats Captain Willox Commits to St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, MN – After a season of career high in goals, assists and points, Bismarck Bobcats co-captain Cullen Willox has committed to play NCAA hockey with University of St. Thomas Tommies for the 2015-16 season.

“Being from the Twin Cities, I’ve been familiar with St. Thomas’ school and hockey program for a long time,” stated Willox, who hails from nearby Eagan, Minn., a short 20-minute drive up I-35E to campus. “Being able to play at a university where I can be a part of a strong program and still be close to home is a great fit for me.”

The Tommies have been a powerhouse under head coach Jeff Boeser, winning the regular season title in the MIAC three of the last four seasons and making the D-III National Tournament in both 2012 and 2014. All told, St. Thomas has been to 16 National Tournaments, dating back to the first D-III Frozen Four held in 1984—finishing as high as second place in 2000 and 2005.

In 2014-15, his second junior season, Willox averaged nearly a point per game with 22 goals and 27 assists in 51 appearances.

Willox will join fellow Bobcat alumni Tyler Richter (2009-12) and Mike Dockry (2011-13) at St. Thomas. His commitment is the eighth by a current or former Bobcat for 2014-15, along with Evan Giesler (Air Force), Matt Perry (Air Force), Joe Tyran (Air Force), Jared Spooner (Minnesota State), JM Piotrowski (Yale), Cody Boyd (Canisius) and Cody Longie (Northland College).

With Main Camp now wrapped up, the Bobcats are full speed ahead for the 2015-16 season, with players reporting to the capital region for training camp on August 23 in advance of the team’s famous “Hell Week” program.
