Bobcats Resume Nationals Play vs. Dangerous North Stars

May 5, 2010

WENATCHEE, WA – The Bismarck Bobcats get back to Robertson Cup Tournament play at the Town Toyota Center against the Traverse City North Stars Thursday night at 9:05 PM (Central Time).

The Bobcats (1-0, 2 pts) and North Stars (1-1, 2 pts) are currently in a four-way tie for first place atop the tournament standings, giving today’s winner the inside track for a berth in Sunday’s national championship game.

“All season long, we’ve viewed Traverse City as a very dangerous team,” said Bobcats head coach Byron Pool. “They are very quietly a strong veteran team with no holes.”

Traverse City opened the tournament with a 5-4 upset of the President’s Award-winning Wenatchee Wild on Tuesday before falling to the three-time defending St. Louis Bandits 4-1 on Wednesday; the Bobcats had Wednesday off after defeating the Bandits 5-3 on Tuesday.

The two teams are tied at two points with both the Bandits and the Fairbanks Ice Dogs—who opened their tournament with a 3-2 win over the Wild, who had previously swept the Ice Dogs in the West Division Finals.

“The North Stars are a talented, hard-working team,” noted Bobcats assistant coach Layne Sedevie. “We aren’t surprised at all to see them right in the mix with everyone for a national finals berth right now.”

In their only meeting of the regular season, the Bobcats dropped a 4-1 decision to the North Stars on the last day of September’s Sherwood NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minn.

Bobcat fans in Bismarck are encouraged to attend Thursday’s 9:00 PM viewing party at Reza’s Pitch on the corner of 3rd St. and Front St. to watch the game live on the big screens and cheer on the ‘Cats in their quest for their first ever Robertson Cup!

The entire Robertson Cup Tournament will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide at BismarckBobcats.com via B2 Networks. Thursday’s pre-game show gets underway at 8:35 PM.
