The North American Hockey League has announced the 2009-2010 regular season schedule. The defending Central Division Champions – Bismarck Bobcats will have to be road warriors to start the season, as 23 of the first 30 games are away from the V.F.W. Sports Center. The 58-game schedule will begin with the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota, which will host all 19 teams in the league. The Bobcats will play four games at the Showcase in front of thousands of fans and 200 scouts from the NHL and College ranks.
Bismarck will open up on home ice on September 25th against the Alaska Avalanche for a back-to-back series in the V.F.W. Sports Center. The Avalanche and Bobcats will play each other in five consecutive games that will take the Bobcats out to the West Division for five games in Alaska. Bismarck will play three games in Wasilla, AK against the Avalanche and then travel south to Soldotna, AK to play the Kenai River Brown Bears for two straight games.
The Bobcats will have seven – three-games-in-three-nights scenarios throughout the season (Including the Showcase, which is four games in four days/nights). Last season, the Bobcats played three-games-in-three-nights a total of six times throughout the 2008-2009 season. However, Bismarck was excellent in that situation with a record of 13-5-1.
Holidays with the Bobcats will be festive with games on Thanksgiving Day, New Year\’s Eve, and New Year\’s Day. Bismarck will host the Alexandria Blizzard on both Thanksgiving Day and New Year\’s Eve and will host the North Iowa Outlaws on New Year\’s Day.
