The Bismarck Bobcats have made it a tradition. On Saturday home games during the 2nd half of the regular season, prior to the US National Anthem, the Bobcats will select the anthem of one of the player’s home countries to be performed in front of the crowd.
This past weekend it was the Swedish National Anthem that was played for defenseman Calle Arvedson. “I was kind of surprised when they played the anthem, but it meant a lot to me. Just to know that I’m represented and coming over here [to play hockey]. It’s just awesome for me to experience that,” Arvedson said.
That wasn’t the only special part of the weekend for Arvedson, however. His parents were in town visiting Bismarck and to watch Calle play. His father, Magnus Arvedson, played 7 seasons in the NHL, between the Ottawa Senators and Vancouver Canucks. Calle mentioned the importance of having them here for a week and having them hear the Swedish National Anthem on Saturday. “It was awesome playing in front of them and great having them here. I showed them around and my mom was super happy that they played the anthem, and they were kind of surprised too, so it was really fun,” Arvedson added.
The Bobcats are on the road this weekend to take on the Austin Bruins, but will return to the VFW the weekend after to take on Austin once again. Be sure to come catch the action, in person, at the VFW by calling 390-7422 or log onto BismarckBobcats.com to get your tickets today.
