Defenseman Signs with Raiders

Bismarck, ND – The Bismarck Bobcats are pleased to announce that defenseman Tommy Bergsland has officially committed to play Division I college hockey at Colgate University.

“They gave me a call and the process moved pretty quickly,” Bergsland said. “I had a conversation with my parents and the staff. We thought it would be a good fit so we made the decision, and I can’t wait to go play there.”

“It’s a great accomplishment for him,” said Bobcats head coach Layne Sedevie. “When you think about all of these kids with their backs against the wall with everything that’s happened this year, for a chance to play Division I hockey, it’s pretty awesome for Tommy.”

Bergsland has five points in 15 games this season, his first with the Bobcats. The Plymouth, Minnesota native was a captain at Wayzata High School before joining the Fargo Force last season. His 37 shots lead all Bobcat defenseman, and rank third on the team.

“It’s pretty special in another way that my former mentor Byron Pool went to Colgate too,” Sedevie said. “Tommy is gonna be a good defender at that level, a big kid that can skate well and will succeed.”

Bergsland is the fifth Bobcat to commit this season. Forward Lars Rødne and defenseman Jonathan Ziskie each committed to Niagara University in November, while defenseman John Gormley (Long Island University) and forward Tim Piechowski (University of St. Thomas) each committed earlier this month.

“It’s been awesome and a great experience to be in Bismarck and develop my game,” Bergsland said. “Once I got here the team was welcoming, the coaching staff has been awesome and it felt like I have a place to play.”
