The Bismarck Bobcats are proud to announce that Ryan McGrath has joined the Bismarck Bobcats scouting staff for the 2026-27 season. McGrath brings a wealth of experience as both a player and a coach to the Bobcats scouting staff.
During his playing days, McGrath won a national championship with the St. Louis Jr. Blues in the CSHL back in 2010.
He then earned a move to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the USHL where he would amass over 100 games between the regular season and playoffs. Throughout his time with Cedar Rapids, McGrath captured the Anderson Cup, awarded to the USHL Regular Season Champions.
He would then earn a commitment to UMass Lowell where his success continued. In 2013 McGrath and the River Hawks would win the Hockey East Championship and appear in the Frozen Four. They would repeat as Hockey East Champions in 2014, and McGrath throughout his collegiate career totaled 3 trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Following his collegiate career, McGrath would then play for 2 teams in the ECHL, the Manchester Monarchs and the Quad City Mallards. Between his stops in Manchester & Quad City, McGrath headed over to Germany for a year to play pro in Europe. Most recently, McGrath serves as the CarShield U16 Head Coach.
Bismarck Bobcats General Manager and Director of Scouting, Niko Kapetanovic talked about how important it was to add McGrath to the staff with the caliber of players that come out of the CarShield program. “We are honored to welcome Ryan McGrath to our scouting staff ahead of the 2026/27 season. Currently, Ryan is the Head Coach of the CarShield U16 program based out of St. Louis. After speaking to Greg Anderson and hearing how highly he spoke of Ryan, he became a no-brainer. The NAPHL is a very important area for us to obtain great players and add to our roster. With the track record CarShield has as a program and the respect that Ryan has, it became an obvious decision to add Ryan to our team. Scouting has been something Ryan has always been interested in. After an outstanding playing career in the USHL to college at UMass-Lowell, to the professional level, I believe Ryan’s future in this game is just about to take off. The Bismarck Bobcats got better today by adding Ryan.
