Bobcats Close Homestand with St. Baldrick’s Event

Mar 12, 2011

BISMARCK, ND – When the Bismarck Bobcats finish up their three-game homestand on Monday with a 7:15 PM start against the Austin Bruins, they not only will be making up the game postponed on Friday due to inclement weather and hazardous travel conditions, they will also take part in the originally scheduled St. Baldrick’s Night event.

“The snow may have held up the game for a few days,” said Bobcats team owner Thom Brigl, “but it certainly wasn’t going to stop us from partnering with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Basin Electric to put on a great event to benefit childhood cancer research in front of the best fans in the NAHL.”

Fans with tickets to Friday’s contest may redeem their tickets for seats to Monday’s game.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation centers around volunteers earning pledges to shave their heads—usually on St. Patrick’s Day—in the name of cancer research. In the spirit of the event, Bobcats head coach Layne Sedevie and assistant coach Adam Gill will both get their heads shaved during the game.

For Monday, the Bobcats will be wearing special edition St. Baldrick’s white and green jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit the foundation—the world’s fastest-growing volunteer-driven fundraising organization benefiting childhood cancer research. Fans will be able to bid on the one-night-only jerseys in a live following Friday’s game.

“We’re looking forward to a fun event for a great cause,” said Sedevie, who also got his head shaved as part of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation game in 2010. “Last year’s event was fantastic and with the addition of the great-looking jerseys it will be a one-of-a-kind night at the VFW.”

Paul Teeple, radio and FastHockey voice of the Cats, has pledged to join Sedevie and Gill if the Bobcats’ twitter account, at http://twitter.com/BismarckBobcats, gets 500 followers by game time on Monday.

The team will also have green beer on sale during the game as part of the event.

Certain Bobcats players will be joining the festivities at Basin Electric on St. Patrick’s Day, as well. Basin Electric’s St. Baldrick’s Day event has already raised over $54,000 for 2011, still over a week before the event.

Fans interested in making separate donations to this year’s St. Baldrick’s Day event can find more information online at http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/eventid/770/eventyear/2011 .

Monday’s special contest will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide at http://nahl.fasthockey.com/. Pre-game coverage will begin at 6:45 PM CT.

Season tickets are now on sale for the 2011-12 season! Call the Bobcat Hockey office at (701) 222-3300 or email gobobcathockey@aol.com for more information on reserving your seats!
