Bobcats Head South to Wrap up Alaska Trip

Oct 7, 2009

SOLDOTNA, AK – The Bismarck Bobcats’ five-game roadtrip to Alaska will come to a close on the state’s Kenai Peninsula with two games against the Kenai River Brown Bears on Friday and Saturday at the Soldotna Sports Center.

The Bobcats enter the set coming off a 2-1-0 series win over the Alaska Avalanche that included consecutive 6-4 and 4-0 wins against the Avs following a series-opening 4-2 defeat.

Goaltender Ryan Faragher (2-2-1) turned in the big performance of the weekend, backstopping the ‘Cats to their first two wins of the 2009-10 campaign by turning aside 52 of 53 shots the Avalanche sent his way during the series’ Sunday and Tuesday games.

Veteran forwards have helped turn things around offensively for the Bismarck side as three points each for Jason Fabian and Casey Kleisinger in the last two games guided the Bobcat offense to outscore Alaska 10-1 over the last five periods of play in Wasilla.

Overall, Fabian leads the Bobcats’ offensive charge with four goals and six assists in nine games; Kleisinger (3 G, 5 A) and first-year forward Dominic Panetta (4 G, 4 A) are tied for second on the team with eight points.

On the other side of the ledger, the Brown Bears return to Soldotna for the first time during the regular season coming off a 1-2-0 performance in a three-game road set against the defending West Division champion Wenatchee Wild. In the series, Kenai River dealt Wenatchee only their second loss of the season with a 4-3 decision before dropping the next two games 3-1 and 5-3.

The Brown Bears are led in scoring by forward Dajon Mingo’s six goals and six assists; Jimmy Hamby (1-3-1) anchors Kenai River in net with a 3.19 GAA and a .910 SV%.

The Bobcats-Brown Bears series will be the last non-division action the ‘Cats will see as the remaining 47 games on their regular season schedule will be against Central Division foes.

Friday and Saturday’s contests are each scheduled for a puck drop of 10:30 PM—central time—from the Soldotna Sports Center.

The games will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide at BismarckBobcats.com via B2 Networks. The pre-game show both nights will get underway at 10:00 PM.
