OWATONNA, MN – The Bismarck Bobcats made a trade on Thursday, acquiring forward Aaron Quick from the Wichita Falls Wildcats in preparation for their two-game divisional roadtrip this weekend against the Owatonna Express and North Iowa Outlaws.
Quick, a 6’3” 210 lb. forward from Monument, Colo., has seven goals and nine assists on the 2009-10 season.
“Aaron gives us the kind of size and speed we’re looking for up front,” said Bobcats assistant coach Layne Sedevie. “He’s a strong scorer who we think will be a good fit with guys like Sean McKenzie and Casey Kleisinger.”
The second-year NAHL veteran is committed to play for the US Air Force Academy this fall, joining fellow future Falcons Jason Fabian and Ryan Jacobson (committed for 2011) on the Bobcats.
The trade represents a switch from last place in the South Division with the Wildcats (10-25-5, 25 pts) to first place in the Central with the Bobcats (23-9-7, 53 pts).
“I’m definitely excited to come to Bismarck and be a part of the Bobcats,” said Quick, who will be in uniform for the ‘Cats this weekend, “it’s a great chance to contribute to a championship-caliber team and possibly finish my junior career with a Robertson Cup.”
Quick’s first game in black and gold will come on Friday with the Bobcats in Owatonna, Minn., to take on the second-place Express (21-13-3, 45 pts) at the Four Seasons Centre, where the ‘Cats are 2-1-2 on the season.
“Owatonna is a very dangerous team in the division right now,” said Sedevie. “They’ve had a really strong group of forwards all year but they’ve done a lot lately to shore up the back end by bringing in guys like [defenseman] Tim Smith and [goalie] Matt Hemingway.”
Hemingway, acquired by the Express at Christmas time from Cedar Rapids of the USHL, has made the biggest immediate impact, going 3-2-0 with a 2.06 GAA in five games. One of his two losses came at the hands of the Bobcats on January 8th.
Following Friday night’s tilt in Owatonna, the ‘Cats head south on I-35 to Mason City, Iowa, to tangle with the fourth-place Outlaws at 7:30 PM on Saturday.
The Bobcats are 5-0-1 against North Iowa this season, but have split their only two contests at North Iowa Ice Arena; winning 3-2 in October before falling by the same score in the shootout in Mason City in November.
Friday’s game in Owatonna gets underway at 7:00 PM.
The game will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide at BismarckBobcats.com via B2 Networks. The pre-game show starts at 6:30 PM.
