Bobcats Welcome Blizzard as Regular Season Looms

Sep 9, 2009

BISMARCK, ND – The Bismarck Bobcats will be getting in their final tune-up for the regular season this weekend, welcoming the rival Alexandria Blizzard to the VFW Sports Center for a two-game preseason series on Friday and Saturday. Both games are scheduled for a 7:15 PM puck drop.

The preseason set will be a rematch of last season’s Central Division Semifinal playoff series, which the Bobcats claimed 3-games-to-1 over the Blizzard on their way to a berth in the 2009 Robertson Cup.

Currently the Bobcats’ roster sits at 30 players—five over the maximum of 25—and with the final preseason cut on the horizon, Head Coach Byron Pool says that his players will be playing with a mid-season sense of urgency.

“I always expect a high level of urgency and intensity from our players, this weekend being no exception,” said Pool. “That’s one of the cornerstones that we built last year’s success on. Whether it’s a regular season game in March or preseason game in September, I expect our guys to bring their ‘A’ game.”

The weekend series will also be a preview of the 13-game regular season series between the two Central Division foes, including seven games in Bismarck at the VFW Sports Center. The Bobcats dominated the Blizzard last season.

The games will be the two sides’ only on-ice competition against “live competition” before next week’s annual NAHL Sherwood Showcase at Schwan’s Super Rink.

The Showcase marks the opening of regular season play for teams in the Central, with the Bobcats opening 2009-10 against Team USA on Wednesday, September 16th. Bismarck will also face-off against the Texas Tornado and St. Louis Bandits—the two teams who have combined to win the last six Robertson Cup titles—before closing Showcase play against the Traverse City North Stars.
