Catching up with the Cats: John Gormley

Apr 24, 2025

This past week, voice of the Bobcats, Brandon Luisi, caught up with former Bobcat Defenseman John Gormley.

Gormley recently signed his first pro contract with the AHL San Jose Barracuda. It’s a lifelong dream for him that came true through hard work and dedication. “It’s really exciting. Every kid grows up dreaming of one day playing professional hockey. It finally came true, so it’s an awesome experience,” Gormley mentioned.

Gormley appeared in 55 games in the 2020-21 season for the Bobcats scoring 3 goals and tacking on 6 assists for a total of 9 points, while being an Alternate Captain for the team. “My team before that, the Topeka Pilots, they were not going to participate in the COVID season. I was fortunate enough to get picked up by Bismarck in that dispersal draft. Just being able to step in there for my first year, I think the guys around me, the staff with Layne as well, just made it a really easy transition, and I’m really grateful for my time in Bismarck,” Gormley said.

Gormley finished out his interview with a message back to the fans of Bismarck. “I look back at my time in Bismarck and all it is, is happy memories. Playing at the VFW, the friendships that I’ve made. I still keep in contact with all these guys, and I’m rooting for them and they’re rooting for me. I think that the Bobcat family is really something special and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it,” Gormley added.
