Cats Open December Back at Home

Dec 3, 2009

BISMARCK, ND – After spending 21 of their first 27 games of the 2009-10 season away from the VFW Sports Center, the Bismarck Bobcats open a run of eight of their next ten games at home when the Alexandria Blizzard pay a visit to the capital city Saturday at 7:15 PM.

The Bobcats enter the one-game weekend fresh off a solid November performance that saw the defending Central Division champs compile a 7-0-2 record against all four of their divisional opponents, vaulting them into sole possession of first place in the standings.

Of those nine November games, four of them were against the visiting Blizzard—and all four ended in 2-1 Bobcat victories over Alexandria.

“You have to be happy to take four wins in a month from a team like Alexandria,” said Bobcats head coach Byron Pool, “but we know we didn’t play our best in some of those 2-1 games. If we want to continue to win against a team that’s improving the way Alexandria is, we need to get better ourselves.”

Overall, the Bobcats are 6-0-0 against the Blizzard.

Bobcats forward Nick Jensen has done the most damage of any Bobcat against the Blizzard lately, notching both game-winning goals in last weekend’s home-and-home series between the divisional rivals on his way to Monday’s Central Division Player of the Week Award.

Jensen has three game-winning goals against the Blizzard overall this year.

Similarly, Blizzard forward Tommy Westmark has been the main source of offensive production for the visitors in the series of late, scoring both Alexandria goals against the Bobcats in last weekend’s series; both were power-play tallies.

The matchup will pit two of the premiere goalies in the league against one another: Bismarck’s Ryan Faragher leads the NAHL with a 1.85 GAA and is fourth in the league with a .929 SV%; Alexandria’s Chris Kamal is second in GAA with a 1.90 mark and third in the NAHL with a .933 SV%.

Saturday’s contest between the Bobcats and Blizzard gets underway at 7:15 PM, but the team is offering Bobcat Buck Beers—beers for just $1.00—from 6:45 PM until the opening puck drop.

The game will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide at BismarckBobcats.com via B2 Networks. The pre-game show starts at 6:45 PM.
