BISMARCK, ND – The Bismarck Bobcats have tendered goaltender Kai Weigel for the 2024-25 season.
Weigel, a Bismarck native, started one game for the Bobcats earlier this year as an affiliate player on October 21. He stopped 29 of 30 shots in a matchup with Austin.
“Kai is no stranger to the Bismarck Bobcats,” Bismarck Assistant General Manager Niko Kapetanovic said. “Having been born in Bismarck and playing his first junior game already this year with the Bobcats, we are extremely excited to have Kai.”
The ‘05 born player logged a .908 save percentage and 3.01 goals against average in 13 appearances with Team Sanford Power in the UMHSEHL this season.
Last year at Moorhead High School in Minnesota, Weigel notched 5 shutouts in 30 appearances, producing a .930 save percentage and 2.03 goals against average.
“He is a super athletic goalie who competes throughout the entire game in net,” Kapetanovic said. “Kai has had a lot of success playing for one of the premier hockey programs in the state of Minnesota. One thing that really separates Kai from other goalies is his exceptional ability to play the puck.”
Tender agreements are contracts handing a North American Hockey League team rights to a player for the upcoming season. If Weigel decides to play in the NAHL, he would join Bismarck.
“Kai will quickly become a fan favorite with his play and his roots to Bismarck,” Kapetanovic said.
