Bobcats Acquire Kennedy from Bruins
BISMARCK, ND – Playoffs adversaries less than a month prior, the Bismarck Bobcats completed an offseason trade with the Austin Bruins, acquiring third-year forward Zach Kennedy from the Bruins.
In two seasons in Austin, Kennedy compiled 24 goals and 10 assists over the course of 94 regular season appearances.
“Watching Zach with the Bruins this year and last year, he was a player whose skill set we really liked: he's a character guy who will be a great fit with our group of guys that are coming back,” stated Bobcats assistant coach and director of player personnel Garrett Roth, “so we are very excited to have the opportunity to bring him on board.”
With 13 players departing from the 2015-16 Bobcat roster due to age restrictions and/or college commitments, the Eagle River, Wisc., native brings an important veteran prospective to what will be a largely re-formed 2016-17 squad.
“Zach has been a part of two different deep playoff runs in Austin and you can’t teach that kind of experience,” added Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie. “He’s also got a nice scoring touch and is a big, gritty, physical power forward—the kind of player you always want on your team at this level.”
Kennedy has 17 career playoff games played, including appearances in the 2015 Robertson Cup Semifinals and Finals.
The Bobcats’ 2016 offseason rolls on June 3-5 with the team’s second and final Pre-Draft Tryout Camp in Prior Lake, Minn. Two days after open camp concludes, the Cats—along with the NAHL’s other 23 teams—will participate in the 2016 NAHL Entry Draft on June 7 at 1:00pm.
