BISMARCK, ND –
It is with mixed feelings that the Bismarck Bobcats announced today that Head Coach/GM Layne Sedevie, coach of the Bobcats for the last 15 years, has accepted a new and equally exciting career change. Layne has accepted the program director job with Bismarck Hockey Boosters
“First and foremost I want to thank Thom and Brenda Brigl for giving me the opportunity to coach in the community that I grew up in.” Sedevie continues “Thank you to the Bismarck-Mandan community for all the support over the years because this organization wouldn’t be where it is today without your support. Thank you for all the great
memories.” – Layne Sedevie
Sedevie joined the Bismarck Bobcats before the 2009-10 Season as the assistant coach under Byron Pool. Together, Pool and Sedevie brought the organization their first-ever Robertson Cup Championship. The following season, Sedevie was named the fourth Head Coach in franchise history. Under his leadership, Sedevie earned a 454-302-70 regular season record. Including Three Central Division Playoff Championships and one Central Division Regular Season Championship. In his fifteen years at the helm, Sedevie’s teams made the playoffs twelve
times. Aside from creating a winning culture, Sedevie helped more than one hundred players reach their goal of playing Division 1 hockey. Two of his players have since made their debuts in the National Hockey League (Hunter Shepard and Sam Malinski). Sedevie says “It has been an absolute honor to stand on the bench and coach all the players that have
made this program what it is today.” Sedevie brings a great hockey pedigree to the local youth hockey scene. “I’m looking forward to working with the area youth and developing the next generation of hockey players in Bismarck” says Sedevie
“I feel very fortunate to have had Layne Sedevie as the coach of the Bismarck Bobcats for the last 15 years. Over that time Layne and I have worked closely both professionally and very good friends, who together with our staff have built a junior hockey program second to none in Bismarck, ND. We’re both very proud of that. I’m excited that Layne, after 15 years of bus rides and long days and nights of travel, is going to be able to spend more time with his family, which was a key part of his decision to
take the position. Finally, the Bismarck area is lucky to have a person with both the heart and the skill to help bring its youth hockey program to the next level. Layne and I have talked about him not being a stranger to the Bobcat program and he (Sedevie) will be involved in some aspect.” – Thom Brigl (Team Owner)
The Bismarck Bobcats organization wants to thank Layne Sedevie and his entire family for all they have done for us over the years. We wish Layne nothing but the best as he
transitions into this new role. The Bobcats are in the process of a national search for a replacement. The Bobcats have promoted Niko Kapetanovic to General Manager who will help find the next coach.
