Nelson Awarded Easton Star of the Week

Dec 9, 2013

BISMARCK, ND–Bismarck native and Bobcat goalie Aaron Nelson has once again won hardware from the NAHL.

Nelson was selected as the NAHL Central Division Easton Star of the Week for his performance in a sweep of the Brookings Blizzard last week.

Nelson is currently on a five-game winning streak, including two wins over first-place Austin two weekends ago, and a win on the road on the hostile ice of the Odde Ice Center in Aberdeen. This past weekend, he stopped 22 shots in a 4-1 win over Brookings Friday night, then stopped 33 more at Brookings for a 3-1 win Saturday.

Entering play this week, Nelson is fifth among goalies with 1000 minutes or better in goals against average (2.07, 9th overall) and save percentage (.927, 7th overall). Of note, his 1392 minutes between the pipes is the most of any goalie in the league.

"We finally gained some momentum as a team, but Aaron has been very consistent all year long," said Bobcats head coach Layne Sedevie. "He doesn’t waver and he can steal you a game. He is the reason why we are doing so well and we are hopeful that a NCAA Division I commitment is coming soon because he deserves it."

This is the third time Nelson has received the award, brining home the honor the weeks of October 7th and October 21st. It’s the fifth time a Bobcat has received the honor, with forwards Huba Sekesi (Munich, Germany) and Stanislav Dzakhov (Moscow, Russia) also earning Star of the Week status this season.

The Bobcats face Minot in a home-and-home weekend, traveling to Minot Friday, then hosting the Minotauros Saturday for "Teddy Bear Toss" night at the VFW Sports Center. Gametimes are 7:15 p.m. both nights. Tickets are still available by calling 222-3300 or online at www.bismarckbobcats.com.
