Oct 20, 2013

BISMARCK, ND–For the second time in three weeks, the netminder for the Bismarck Bobcats has taken home NAHL honors.

Aaron Nelson (Bismarck, ND) earned the NAHL Central Division Easton Star of the Week award this week for his performances last Friday and Saturday against the Brookings Blizzard.

Nelson stopped 37 shots in a 2-1 Bobcat loss at Brookings Friday night, allowing just a power-play goal until the final 10 seconds of the game.  He responded with 30 more saves in a 3-1 win over the Blizzard at the VFW Sports Center Saturday night, with the lone goal allowed a power-play score.

Nelson currently ranks tied for first in the NAHL in wins, with eight, and he ranks second in games and minutes played.  His .926 save percentage is third best among NAHL goalies with 500 minutes or more logged this season.  The weekend lowered his goals against average (GAA) to 2.16.

"Aaron has been a workhorse for us.  he played really well on Friday and gave us a chance to win when we weren't at our best," said Bobcats head coach Layne Sedevie.  "We are relying on him a little bit too much right now, but we know he can handle it."

The Bobcats are 8-3 overall with 16 points in the NAHL Central Division, in third place by a point to second-place Aberdeen and by two points to frontrunner Austin.  Bismarck hosts Minot Friday night, then travels to Minot Saturday.  Tickets for Friday night's game are still available at the Bobcats' ticket office or by calling 222-3300.
