BISMARCK, N.D.–The Bobcats’ top defenseman received another honor for his stellar play in the 2022-23 season.
The North American Hockey League named Michael Neumeier defenseman of the month for January 2023 on Thursday. This is Neumeier’s second such honor this season, having won the award for September 2022 as well.
Neumeier, a 19-year-old from Kerrobert, Sask. leads all defensemen in the league with 32 points this year. He vaulted to the top of the leaderboard thanks to an incredible 11 points over his last five games. Neumeier’s +12 rating in the month of January did not hurt, either.
“Looking back on January, I would say we were successful when we played as a team rather than individuals and had a focus on playing hard in the defensive zone,” Neumeier told NAHL.com. “I think personally, my decision making when to join in the play and when to stay back and my net front play has improved a lot since the start of the season.”
After no Bobcat won a player of the month award last season, Neumeier has already taken home two this season. He signed his Division I hockey deal with Colgate University in October. Now, the focus is on winning a championship with the Bismarck Bobcats.
The Bismarck Bobcats are home on Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11 against St. Cloud. Game times are 7:15 p.m. both nights. Tickets are on sale for all games at tickets.bismarckbobcats.com and on the free Bobcats mobile app.
