Road Wizardry Merits Star Selection for Nelson

FRISCO, TX – Thanks to a pair of wins in Fresno over the weekend, including 41 saves on 44 shots, Bismarck Bobcat goaltender Aaron Nelson has been named the Combat Hockey Central Division Star of the Week.

“Coach [Layne] Sedevie always tells us that team success leads to individual success, and this award kind of reflects that,” noted Nelson, who is back for his second season in black and gold after piling up 14 wins in his rookie campaign, “and this weekend we got a couple of team wins. The guys were playing well out there and protected the middle of the ice both nights; this award is definitely because of them.”

Nelson only allowed three goals in two complete games, getting the Bobcats the road sweep in their first-ever trip to California.

In total, Nelson has won all three starts since returning to action for the Bobcats on October 19.

“Goaltending is always a key position and anytime you can have a veteran like Aaron back in the line-up, it is a huge lift,” said Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie.  “I thought Aaron played with a lot of confidence this weekend and we feel really good about the 1-2 goaltending tandem we have with him and Bryan Nies.”

Nelson is the second Bobcat to win the award in the 2012-13 season, joining tandem partner Nies as Bobcat honorees.

With a four-point weekend, Bobcat captain Adam Knochenmus was named honorable mention for the award.

Notes

Nelson’s former tandem partner, Tommy Burke, was named the CCHA Rookie of the Week after a 48-save weekend for Bowling Green State University as the Falcons split at Ohio State.

The Bobcats continue their west coast road trip Friday with a 9:05 PM contest at the Town Toyota Center against the Wenatchee Wild.

Friday’s series opener will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide on the official internet television partner of the NAHL, FASTHockey, at http://nahl.fasthockey.com.  Pregame coverage gets under way at 8:35.
