Morberg Secures League Honors with Five-Point Weekend
FRISCO, TX – On the strength of five points in three games to help the Bismarck Bobcats extend their lead for the final playoff spot in the Central Division, the North American Hockey League named Bobcat forward Simon Morberg the Central Division Star of the Week Tuesday.
“Being named Star of the Week means a lot to me, to feel that sense of accomplishment,” stated Morberg, who joined the Bobcats in a trade from Amarillo on January 5. “I finally feel like I’ve found my way back to my game; not just getting points—I feel good every shift I’m out there. That’s something I’ve worked on: to play good hockey for 60 minutes—and so has our team, now, too.”
The native of Gothenburg, Sweden, who turned 21 earlier this month, tallied three goals while chipping in a pair of assists as the Bobcats went 2-1-0 against the Minot Minotauros to move three points ahead of their arch rivals for fourth place in the division.
“Simon has been a great addition to our team,” added Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie. “He has added some scoring touch for us and his size and speed along with his compete level are a big reason for his success.”
All told, Morberg’s forward line—along with Andrew Bellant and Adam Stacho—accounted for 15 points (6g, 9a) in the three-game set.
Also earning honorable mention for the weekly divisional hardware was Bobcat goalie Johnny Roberts, who went 2-0-0 in his two appearances on the weekend, stopping 59 out of 63 shots faced.
Morberg is the second Bobcat to earn the Central Division’s Star of the Week award, joining goalie Ryan Ullan (October 23).
With the Minot weekend behind them, the Bobcats now turn their attention to a two-game home series starting Friday against the first-place Aberdeen Wings.
