Starzynski Shines on Day One at 2013 World Juniors

DONETSK, UKRAINE – Bismarck Bobcats forward Filip Starzynski had a day to remember to open the 2013 World Junior Championships, netting two goals and two assists for Team Poland as the Poles dumped Team Kazakhstan 6-3 on Day One of Division I, Group B.

Starzynski’s second goal, scored just over 10 minutes into the second period was the eventual game-winner.

“I’m playing on a line with a couple of great guys,” credited Starzynski, who was combined with Kacper Guzik and Adam Domogala in Monday’s triumph over Kazakhstan. “We worked well together and put each other into a position to succeed.”

After being an assistant captain during the Poles’ 2012 entry at World Juniors, Starzynski is the captain for Team Poland this time around.

Execution of head coach Andrei Parfyonov's game plan was key to the win, Starzynski pointed out.

“Coach Parfyonov told us that the first 10 minutes of the game would be the most important,” recalled the second-year Bobcat. “We responded well and got a power play goal in the first minute.”

Team Poland returns to action Wednesday against Great Britain at 4:30 PM local time—11:30 AM Central Time—in the six-team, five-game round robin. If Poland wins their group, they move up to Group A with a chance to advance to the main group for 2015.

Back stateside, the Bobcats have a 7:35 PM Friday grudge match with the Minot Minotauros at Maysa Arena to open a two-game set with their northern rivals.

Friday’s series opener will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide on the official internet television partner of the NAHL, FASTHockey, at http://nahl.fasthockey.com.  Pregame coverage gets under way at 7:05 PM.
