O’Connor Nets December Defenseman of the Month Award
FRISCO, TX – Propelled by points in eight of his nine appearances and a four-game goal streak heading into the Christmas break, the North American Hockey League named Bismarck Bobcat Patrick O’Connor the league’s Defenseman of the Month for December.
“It’s a big honor to be named Defenseman of the Month,” noted O’Connor, in his second year on the Bobcat blue line, “especially when you look around our league—and even just our division—and see how many great D-men there are right now.”
Over the course of December, the Moorhead, Minn., native put up four goals and five assists, scoring twice on the power play and submitting a plus-2 rating.
“Patrick has been great for us all year,” Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie told NAHL.com, “he is a veteran and a leader on and off the ice. His play on the ice is starting to speak for itself which is great to see his hard work pay off.”
His biggest stretch of December came between the 8th and the 15th, where the O’Connor scored goals in four straight contests including the game-winner in a 3-1 thriller at Brookings on December 15 right before the holiday break.
“Heading into break was a little bittersweet,” admitted O’Connor, “because on one hand when you’re on a ‘heater’ like that, you want to keep playing… but it was also great to go home and visit friends and family to rest up and recharge for a week.”
O’Connor and the rest of the Bobcats open 2018 with a home tilt against the Brookings Blizzard on Saturday at 7:15pm.
